I now tend to favour lighter coloured smooth leathers myself as they provide more leeway: it can be made darker, richer, but not lighter. You might also try to lighten a leather item to match other leather pieces you own. Leather may become discolored over time, in which case you may choose to lighten the leather to save money on replacement. If you want the lighter looking pair, buy them. Real leather is an expensive material that is commonly used to make shoes, belts, jackets, purses and other apparel and accessory items. I would leave such an operation for when/if you slide far enough down the rabbit hole to have pairs of shoes you could experiment on and not miss if things go awry. The only real way about changing the colour of a dark shoe and making it significantly lighter and basically changing the colour entirely is by stripping the dye out of the leather and re-dying it whatever colour you like. You could give them a mild reddish tint, but that is not permanent and remember that excessive polish cakes on over time. To do so you'd need to slather on so much of the stuff that you'd basically be painting the new colour on, at least, that's what I've found. Since multiple alleles are at play, there’s a full spectrum of hair color possibilities.Like others have said, you can't make a dark boot measurably lighter with just creams and polishes. Most of what you’ll read about genetics presents hair color as either dominant or recessive. It turns out, there are many different shades of brown. The science makes sense, but according to the Tech Museum of Innovation, most of what we know about hair color is still in the theory stage. People used to think that if one parent had blonde hair and the other had brown hair, for example, the recessive (blonde) would lose out and the dominant (brown) would win. When the genes meet, the resulting expression is your baby’s unique phenotype, or physical trait. Dominant alleles are associated with dark hair, while recessive alleles are linked to fair shades. You might remember the terms “dominant” and “recessive” from grade school science class. Take the time to thoroughly clean your boots. 1 If you do not have any leather bleach, use a leather cleaner to remove any dirt. Scrub vigorously to remove any dirt that is on your boots. Apply this mixture to your boots using a stiff brush. How exactly do genes interact to create hair color? Each of your baby’s genes are made up of alleles. Mix one ounce of leather bleach and one pint of water.
